ENGLISH BACCALAUREATE

The Government published their Education White Paper in December. The Paper sets out the educational reform over the next four years. One of the most significant changes which will affect your child is the introduction of the English Baccalaureate. This new qualification will be used by further and higher educational establishments as an entry criteria.

We welcome the introduction of the English Baccalaureate as it recognises that students have achieved a well balanced academic education. In order for a student to be awarded the English Baccalaureate they must study traditional GCSEs in the following subjects: English, Maths, Science (either Additional or all three Single Sciences), Humanities (either History or Geography) and a Modern Foreign Language. To receive this award students need to pass this specific combination of subjects at a grade C or above but do not have to complete any additional work for the English Baccalaureate itself.
