BRIEF OUTLINE
In this course you will study English and English Literature using a wide range of activities. You will read for enjoyment but also to identify features of writing for comment and discussion. You will develop your own writing skills by writing creatively for different purposes and audiences.
You will also practise your speaking and listening skills by working in pairs and small groups.
COURSE CONTENT
You will be starting a new course in September 2011. You will be required to study the following:
- a play by Shakespeare
- a modern prose text
- poetry
- a variety of media texts
- you will also write for a variety of purposes
- spoken language study
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED
Assessment will be in the form of controlled condition assignments and examinations.
WHY STUDY ENGLISH AND ENGLISH LITERATURE
- English and English Literature are enjoyable, fulfilling and enriching activities
- they provide you with a key skill required for most employment and further and higher education
- many careers and courses require a grade C in English
- all careers value English, including journalism, media, law and advertising
