GCSE CORE AND ADDITIONAL SCIENCE

BRIEF OUTLINE

The GCSE Sciences will develop your knowledge of science, technology and scientific literacy and help you to engage with scientific issues in everyday life. The course provides you with 2 GCSEs in Science.

 

COURSE CONTENT

In Y10, you will study GCSE Core Science, this includes:

      - Human biology, products from rocks, energy and energy resources

 

In Y11 you will study:

      - GCSE Additional Science: a route to further study of Science at AS/A2 level including a full scientific investigation as coursework. The subject includes the study of cells, electrical circuits and chemical reactions.

 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

Core Science: 75% modular tests, in the form of 6 multiple choice exams and 25% Controlled Assessment

Additional Science: Controlled Assessment

 

WHY STUDY SCIENCE

      - the Science studies in Key Stage 4 will allow you to make informed decisions on science and technology issues

      - they will allow you to gain your first qualifications towards a scientific career
