GCSE MODERN LANGUAGES: FRENCH AND SPANISH

BRIEF OUTLINE

A GCSE in a Modern Foreign Language opens doors to many opportunities in future life. The ability to speak another language is valued by universities and employers. Many universities prefer students with a GCSE qualification in a Modern Foreign Language.

 

COURSE CONTENT

You will study how to communicate in French/Spanish when discussing the following areas:

      - your everyday activities at school and at home

      - your personal and social life

      - the world around you

      - the international world

 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

      - a listening examination to test your understanding of spoken French/Spanish 20%

      - a reading examination to test your understanding of written French/Spanish  20%

      - 2 written pieces prepared in class and then written up under controlled conditions 30%

      - 2 spoken tasks conducted and assessed in school and then externally moderated 30%

 

WHY STUDY A MODERN LANGUAGE?

      - you may wish to study/work abroad one day

      - you may find it useful when travelling abroad on holiday

      - it gives you an insight into other cultures

      - it develops your communication skills

      - it develops your ability to think creatively
