BRIEF OUTLINE
This course is ideal if you are interested in working with people who use health and social care services such as children, older people, and people with disabilities. You will learn about knowledge and skills needed by people working in health, social care and early years professions.
Lessons will include class discussions, practical activities, and guest speakers from care professions such as nursery nurses and social workers and a visit to a care setting. You should prefer to learn through practical assignments based on realistic workplace situations.
COURSE CONTENT
You will study:
- how to maintain hygiene and safety in care settings
- how to communicate with service users in care settings
- knowledge and skills needed to provide practical caring tasks
HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED?
There is 100% coursework, there are no external examinations!
All work is assessed through the building of a portfolio of written and some practical tasks to provide evidence of the 3 units listed above.

- the OCR National Award is a valued qualification. You will gain some essential knowledge, experiences and skills that are needed for a career in health and social care and life in general.
- you will develop and use a variety of transferable skills including how to organise your work, carry out independent research and present your findings and work in teams.
- the course will give you a good introduction to health and social care careers and a good basis for further vocational and academic study e.g. NVQs, Diplomas or A levels.

This qualification is taught in two option blocks. This means that if you choose this course it will take up 2 of your option choices.
