BRIEF OUTLINE
The BTEC First in Music covers many areas of music, not just listening, performing and composing. It does not specify which listening, composing, performing topics you have to study. It also allows all students to access the course although the minimum expected KS3 level should be 5.3 minimum
COURSE CONTENT
The BTEC First in Music has been developed to focus on:
- education and training for musicians
- providing opportunities for musicians to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification
- providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the performing arts sector or to progress to further education vocational qualifications such as Level 3 BTEC National in Music Practice or Music Technology
- providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and Techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
100% Portfolio (no examinations) A selection of the units that students are able to study, include:
- exploring the music profession
- developing as a performer
- exploring musical composition
- working as a musical ensemble
- understanding music
- producing a musical recording
WHY STUDY MUSIC
BTEC Music isn't a soft option compared with GCSE - it is a vocational qualification whereas GCSE is more academic. It is not as restrictive as GCSE but you do have to keep on top of the coursework as there is no examination.
